The village of Paralia Katerini is situated on the coasts of the Prefecture of Pieria, on the banks of the Thermaic Gulf. It is 7km away from Katerini and it is easily accessible for visitors through the National Highway E75 (exit in the junction of Katerini or Korinos), the provincial road Olympiakis Akti – Korinou and the Railway of Katerini. Paralia Katerini is in the center of the Prefecture of Pieria and is considered to be part of the Prefecture of Katerini. It is connected to Olympiaki Akti through a lit up coastal roadway with a parallel bike lane and a pedestrian zone for evening walks and unforgettable mornings.
Paralia Katerini was founded in 1922 by fishermen and its inhabitants were immigrants coming from Kios, Asia Minor (Propontida Gulf). At first they settled in Thessaloniki but after a while (part of them) moved permanently into this area because it reminded them of their home country. The post-war maps refer to the village as Skala Vromeris (skala = dock). It was renamed Paralia Katerini in 1950 and was recognized in 1966.
Due to its advantageous position, tourism was developed in Paralia Katerini with a lot of hotels, restaurants and other infrastructure provided to all visitors. Both its extensive beaches and the small distance between the road and railway axis contributed to that development.
